John Lennon has been used in a US advert for charity One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) 28 years after being shot dead in New York. The initiative aims to give each child in developing countries a solar powered laptop in order to give them access to the wealth of knowledge that the internet has to offer. The charity has previously utilised celebrities such as Masi Oka (Hiro from the TV series “Heroes”) to convey its message, and the use of John Lennon in this ad has been approved by Yoko Ono and his image and voice produced using digital technology.
I would have liked to have been impressed by this, unfortunately it seems to not quite hit the spot with the questionable sound quality for the voice, especially for the word “laptop” (the one word you can’t imagine John ever said before his passing) making it seem like a robot John Lennon rather than a genuine endorsement by the former Beatle.
